04 — Questions

Frequently asked

What is The Shell?

The Shell is a web-based legal correspondence engine by Lyons Hub Inc. Law firms use it to compose branded legal letters, refine them with AI into formal, jurisdiction-correct language, and dispatch them in minutes. It also includes a contract generator with 16 jurisdiction-aware templates.

Who is The Shell for?

Law firms of every size — solo practitioners, small firms of up to 5 users, larger firms of up to 20 users, and enterprises with unlimited seats.

Which jurisdictions does The Shell support?

Eight: Canada (including Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta), the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Singapore and Australia. The Solo plan covers Canada and the UK; Firm and above cover all eight.

How much does The Shell cost?

Solo is $49 USD/month, Firm is $129 USD/month, Chamber is $249 USD/month, and Enterprise is quoted on request. Annual billing saves roughly 20%. All plans are billed in US dollars.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial with full Firm-plan access and no credit card required.

Does The Shell store the contents of my letters?

No. Once a letter is dispatched, its body text is not stored on The Shell’s servers; drafts stay in your browser until you send. The Shell keeps your account and firm identity, the branding assets you upload, and a metadata-only dispatch record (recipient, subject, jurisdiction, timestamp, and the assist/edit/approval trail).

Is my content used to train AI models?

No. Drafting and refinement run through third-party AI providers under commercial API agreements that prohibit training on your content, and your text is not retained by them to improve their models.

Does The Shell send letters without a lawyer reviewing them?

No. A letter is not dispatched until the user has reviewed it and confirmed they take responsibility for sending it, and every AI-drafted contract carries a review-required notice.

How is data secured?

All traffic is encrypted with TLS and the domain is on the HSTS preload list; stored data is encrypted at rest; passwords use PBKDF2 with a per-user salt; sign-in and other sensitive endpoints are rate-limited; and each firm’s records are isolated to its own authenticated session. The Shell is engineered to SOC 2 control principles; formal certification is on the roadmap.

Is The Shell a law firm?

No. The Shell is software. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice; all AI-generated content must be reviewed by qualified counsel before use.

Who makes The Shell?

Lyons Hub Inc., a company based in Ontario, Canada. The Shell is not affiliated with any law firm, holding company, or the discontinued “theShell” desktop-environment software.

How do I contact The Shell?

General enquiries: hello@lyonshub.com. Security reports: security@lyonshub.com. Security documentation (subprocessor register, DPA, CAIQ-Lite / SIG-Lite) is available to prospective customers on request.
